4/2/2024 0 Comments Atlas lathe 618You’ll hear it before you see it start to move Measure both ends to be sure, probably just a firm smack or two with a drift will loosen it up. That is most likely a tapered solid pin and should drive out from the opposite end shown. Maybe heat the collar a little to help get it free? I'm guessing tapered and I just drive it out. I've tried to pull the north end out with vice grips but didn't want to mange the end too much. Is this a tapered pin, a shear pin or a split pin? More importantly, what is the best way to get it out? I've tapped on the 'north' end it with a punch but I didn't want to hit it too hard. It seems that this pin is securing the collar to the shaft, right? The parts diagram I got from Vintage Machinery doesn't show anything like this. "North" side of the collar that secures the banjo. First order of business is that I want to get the banjo off. However, it is extraordinary filthy, has some broken bits, and generally needs some TLC. I got it through an online auction at a very gloat-worth price-the change gears and other stuff were not show in the pictures! I am now the new owner of an old Atlas 618 metal lathe.
